DEBORAH ALLISON

Fine Art Paintings and Portrait Commissions

Artist’s Biography

Working in a range of media and exploring subjects from landscapes to portraits, florals to house portraits, Deborah finds that the variety keeps her work fresh and sincere. The fluidity and transparency of watercolors appeal to her sense of spontaneity.  She enjoys the immediacy of pastels, considering them her medium of play, getting her hands dirty. And the richness of oils is irresistible to her.  Most recently she has been exploring liquid acrylic on watercolor paper, which has broadened both her technique and subject matter.

Deborah has always been interested in art, but it wasn’t until she was working in Paris, France that she realized she was driven to paint.  Surrounded by European masterworks and famous Impressionist works, she felt this was the opportunity to absorb the inspiration that flows freely in that city.

Studying with Parisian artist Alexandra Georgin-Colin for 6 years, Deborah acquired detailed studio instruction in a variety of media, allowing her to understand the different qualities and individuality of each.  Later, with Timothy Wells from England she gained skill and confidence in plein-air and landscape watercolors. Portraiture techniques were studied with Perrin Sparks, well-known pastel artist from Texas. In 2007, Deborah studied with Tony Ryder and will continue into 2008. Her latest portraits are glowing tributes to the beauty that exists on earth.

In 1998, Deborah started teaching painting and was the featured artist for a number of painting holidays located in England, France and Italy. Sharing her skills, experience and vision with students and artists has been a predominate role in her life.

Deborah and her husband, Wayne Cline, returned to the U.S. in 2000, ending a career in computers to follow her artistic vision.  They traveled for a few years in their fifth wheel home, before stopping in the Big Bend area of Texas.  Inspired by the stark landscape and brilliant light, Deborah and Wayne bought and restored a 100 year old house in Alpine, Texas, turning the building into a premier art gallery, studio and classroom.

In the ensuing years, Deborah’s art expanded further into western landscapes, florals, western portraiture and other commissioned work.  Teaching small groups, she encouraged and inspired many of the local citizens to excel in painting,  She would also take on out of town artists for short workshops as well as traveling and conducting demonstrations.

After four terrific years as gallery owner and painting teacher, Deborah decided it was time to travel beyond the far west Texas region and work on her own painting. Today, she is working on commissions, including murals and book illustrations, as well as exploring new techniques and media.
